So we saw "Coraline" last night. I'm gonna be all alone on this review, just like I was on "Benjamin Button" (I was apparently the only person in the universe who thought that also sucked).
Here's the thing about "Coraline": if you're one of those techie nerds that gets all excited about stop-motion cinematography, then you will definitely like this. If, however, you like a good story line that moves along at faster than 2 mph, then you'll be bored, as I was.
i think the movie was too far from the book, though i did sorta like the movie, the book is way better.
ReplyDeleteP.S i hate Benjamin button too...
I hate Tim Burtons films just because so many people like them. Plus they suck.
ReplyDeleteFor the thousandth time, Tim Burton did NOT direct The Nightmare Before Christmas. He "Created" it. The director of Coraline is not Tim Burton.
ReplyDeleteAnd you call this a review? I call it a single sentence. Every movie has its bad points. I thought Coraline was a little slow, too, but that's hardly a reason to say it sucks. If you want a thrills-a-minute movie, then go watch something in the action genre.
I have to agree. I watched this last night and was not only deeply disappointed, but deeply disturbed, as well. To think they're aiming this at families with a PG rating (should be PG-13) is beyond me. I expected that a movie with so much hype surrounding the visual aspects would blow me away with beauty and color, but most of the movie was dark, dreary, and most of all UGLY. The story itself seems like it could actually traumatize little kids who are the sensitive type.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you're not alone on the Benjamin Button score.
Because all kids movies have to be bright fun and colorful with songs and family values shoved down your throat?
ReplyDeleteNot to mention Tim Burton had nothing to do with Coraline. And just because people like them doesn't mean they suck. But, you go ahead and do what you want, you little rebel you.
Coraline, in my opinion, is amazing. the story line was incredible and young children love the idea of a magical world. There is not a way to say how much children want fantasy to be real and in this movie that idea does, infact, become reality. Coraline goes to extents that other movies doesnt and leaves the viewer mystified. I think that coraline is fabulous.. im sorry but this review needed a comment in favor of the movie as most people, many of them under 10 years old, who watch it fall in love.
ReplyDeleteUmm..does every kids movie have to be colourful and goody-goody with a cliche happy ending? Disney movies are good and full of value but are so predictable! We all know what happens in the end. HAPPILY EVER AFTER. VERY CLICHE! Coraline is more of real life with no magic ball gowns or whatever girly lark but it shows you've got to be content with what you have! And the songs were amazing. And anyway kids love Coraline. Atleast it's not sexist like some Disney movies where only the girls will watch the girly movies and the boys the boyish movies. It's for both the genders
